It may be nearly Christmas but our members are still squeezing in every little (or big) race they can before the big day.
First, a special mention to our member Rob Carr, who recently completed the gruelling Winter Downs 200. The Winter Downs 200 is a 200 mile continuous trail run, taking in the North Downs and South Downs Way, and much more inbetween. Runners have 96 hours to complete the race, facing long stretches of darkness and undulating terrain. Rob completed the course in 94:42:52.
It was also time for the last Sussex Cross Country League event of the year, held at Ardingly. In the women's 5k, Katherine Wallek was first over the line for BHR in 26:02. She was followed by Annette Maynard (27:05), Cath Beckett (28:13) and Nicky Callus (30:25). Our Women's Vet O50 team came 2nd overall, with Nicky Callus coming in 2nd in the individual Women's V65 category. In the Men's 8k, Phil Wallek was first for BHR in 36:14. He was followed by Steven Barrett (41:53), Andy Sayers (45:48), James Hedley (46:36) and John Palmer (54:20).
We had a small group take part in the local Mince Pie 10 organised annually by the Seaford Striders. Ben Peters finished in (1:08:16), followed by Jamie Goodhead (1:23:22), Hannah Goodhead (1:47:04) and Emma Goodhead (1:47:20).
Elsewhere, Chris Maule finished the Malaga Marathon in a speedy 2:43:48, and Oliver Day took on the Hurtwood 50km, finishing in 6:38:36.

As we gear up for Christmas, our members are still getting out and about taking parts in all sorts of races. First to report on this week is the last of the WSFRL races, the Horsham Joggers Gunpowder Trot. Neil Philpott was first for BHR in 33:32. He was followed by Steve Barrett (34:10), Andrew Bishop (35:12), Daniel Belton (38:50), Stephen Divers (40:58), Jill Bennett (42:56), Richard Light (43:03), Chris Page (43:56), Katherine Hughes (47:55) and Hugh Stevenage (58:21).
Next, the return of a favourite for the club, the November Brighton 10k, hosted by Brighton and Hove AC. Ben Peters was first for BHR in 36:20. He was followed by Chris Alden (37:42), Phil Wallek (38:24), Jamie Goodhead (41:52), Gayle Tyler (43:08), Andrew Bishop (43:43), Kath Wallek (44:12), Susan Wintle (45:41), Annette Maynard (47:06), Hannah Goodhead (48:39), Gary Parr (50:36), John Palmer (51:12), David Anscombe (52:34), Tshepho Mati (52:48), Antonia Boxall (53:46), John Schofield (53:48), Claire Giles (56:41), Nigel Cruttenden (57:23), Marlene McHale (59:28), Kim Cruttenden (1:01:26), Sarah Parr (1:01:47) and Katie Howes (1:03:36).
Elsewhere, Annette Maynard and John Palmer ran the Thorney Island Off Road Half Marathon in 1:55:14 and 2:14:48 respectively. Rob Carr completed the Podgorica Marathon in 3:57:40. And Marlene McHale came 1st in category at the Manchester Half Marathon, finishing in 2:11:45.

It's been a busy few weeks at Burgess Hill Runners, with our members travelling near and far to take part in races.
Starting with the two most recent West Sussex Fun Run League Races, we had a big turnout at the Haywards Heath Harriers Great Walstead race. First across the line for BHR was Chris Alden in 36:04. He was followed by Oliver Day (39:32), Travis Golbey (39:34), Oliver Dewdney (40:20), Steve Barrett (40:40), Sharona Harrington (41:06), Annette Maynard (43:56). Gayle Tyler (43:56), Stephen Divers (49:39), Izzy Dewdney (50:08), Nicky Callus (50:30), Jill Bennett (50:53), Theresa Chalk (51:40), Chris Page (52:39), John Palmer (53:27), Nigel Cruttenden (54:23), Rainer Hirt (56:09), Laura Walton (57:17), Jayne Leaney (58:08), Kim Cruttenden (58:44), Julia Powell (58:55), Ruth Day (1:09:19) and Hugh Stevenage (1:14:47).
In the Lancing Eagles Steepdown Challenge, Travis Golbey was first for BHR in 36:01. He was followed by John Schofield (49:55), Chris Page (49:55), Stephen Divers (51:15), Jill Bennett (51:16), John Palmer (53:56) and Theresa Chalk (58:47).
We saw the return of the Beachy Head races, a marathon, half marathon, ultra and 10k - all with challenging yet scenic routes around the Beachy Head area of Eastbourne. In the half, Carlos Reyes finished in 2:00:07. And in the marathon, Rob Carr was first for BHR in 5:15:42. He was followed by father and daugther duo Jamie and Hannah Goodhead (5:16:52), and Lee Crow (5:27:07).
Next, a whole host of half marathons. Alan Fry finished the Royal Parks Half Marathon in 2:04:36, Andrew Biggs the Eden Half Marathon in 1:43:20, Claire Giles the Venice Half Marathon in 2:17:49, and Yasmine Allfrey and Kevin Cross the Bedgebury Half Marathon in 1:52:07 and 1:52:05. A small group took on the Oxford Half Marathon. Leo Watts and Ben Watts finished first for BHR in 1:37:11, followed by Yasmine Allfrey (1:48:18) and Ella Chislett (2:11:49).
Elsewhere, Rob Carr continued his spell of long distances races abroad, finishing both the Zagreb Marathon (4:11:54) and the Ljubljana Marathon (4:13:16). Chris Maule finished the Abingdon Marathon in 2:47:12. John Palmer finished the Worthing 10k in 59:54. And Ella Chislett finished the 10 mile Cabbage Patch race in 1:40:27.
Last but not least, John Palmer and Annette Maynard represented BHR in the Goodwood Cross Country League, finishing in 45:17 for John in the 8k race and 23:37 for Anette in the 5k race.

A bumper report this week with a range of races including some club favourites. That includes the Barns Green series of races, which are always a popular weekend in the BHR race calendar. In the half marathon, Ben Peters was first for BHR in 1:23:04. He was followed by Paul Prosser (1:30:56), Travis Golbey (1:32:20), Andrew Bishop (1:41:49), Christie Matthews (1:42:13), Edward Lambert (1:42:31), Kevin Cross (1:42:52), Sharona Harrington (1:46:02), Lee Crow (1:51:50), Tshepho Mati (2:00:10), Jill Bennett (2:06:05), Isobel Dewdney (2:07:56), Alan Fry (2:07:58) and Tlou Mati (2:32:51).
In the 10k, Chris Alden was first for BHR in 38:35. He was followed by Jamie Goodhead (40:50), Mark Santer (41:32), Neil Phillpot (41:53), Gayle Tyler (44:58), Yasmine Allfrey (47:57), Debbie Saint (50:05), Nigel Cruttenden (55:46), Emma Watson (56:46), Chris Page (56:28), John Schofield (57:09), Kim Cruttenden (1:01:19), Laura Walton (1:01:21), Marlene McHale (1:01:59), Jayne Leaney (1:02:50), Theresa Chalk (1:07:38), Karen Sargeant (1:08:42) and Lorraine Hewitt (1:12:14).
And finally in the 5k, Rosanna Allfrey finished in 34:54, and David Clark in 45:15.
Another big group took part in the Lewes Downlands 10 Mile race hosted by the Lewes Athletics Club. Ben Peters was first for BHR in 1:10:45. He was followed by Chris Alden (1:12:11), Phil Wallek (1:15:42), Tom Wheatley (1:20:14), Oliver Day (1:20:20), Katherine Wallek (1:22:49), Andrew Bishop (1:24:16), Annette Maynard (1:30:48), Nicky Callus (1:40:37 - and first in category), Laura Walton (1:52:15), Jayne Leaney (1:57:57) and John Palmer (1:58:58).
Elsewhere, Andrew Biggs finished the Nottingham Half Marathon in 1:28:49. Paul Kaynes finished the Belfast Half Marathon in 2:08:44. And Annette Maynard and John Palmer finished the Berlin Marathon in 3:45:16 and 4:46:15 respectively.
And last but not least, Robert Carr took on the Glasgow to Edinburgh 57 mile ultra-marathon, finishing in 11:08:37.

A range of races to report on this week, from 10ks to ultra-marathons!
Starting with the ultras, Jamie Goodhead and Mark Nicholls travelled to the Lake District to take on The Lap - a 45 mile trail race around Lake Windermere. They finished in 11:05:03 and 11:05:05. Elsewhere in the ultra-round-up, Nicky Callus chose the Chilterns as her location for an epic race, taking on the Chiltern Wonderland 50. The Chiltern 50 is a 50 mile looped race around the beautiful Chiltern countryside. It has 5600ft of climb, and takes in picturesque villages along the way. She completed the course in 12:09:56.
In half marathon results, Andrew Biggs and Mark Santer completed the Spartan Half Marathon in 1:33:58 and 1:37:03 respectively.
And finally in 10ks, Gayle Tyler and Paul Prosser finished the Alf Shrubb 10k in 48:14 and 46:13. And Chris Page finished the East Grinstead 10k in 57:17.

After a quieter few weeks over the summer, there's a whole range of races to report on today.
First up, the two most recent West Sussex Fun Run League events. First, the Fittleworth Flyers 5 - which Travis Golbey came first for BHR in in 42:09. He was followed by Sharona Harrington (44:43), Steven Barrett (44:58), Andrew Bishop (45:10), Oliver Day (47:08), Rob Carr (47:22), Stephen Divers (49:40), Chris Page (56:17), Jill Bennett (56:59) and Katherine Hughes (58:48).
Next was the Saints and Sinners Tilgate Forest 5. Dylan Wallek was first for BHR in 33:41. He was followed by Phil Wallek (33:53), Travis Golbey (35:59), Kirsty Philpott (37:57), Neil Philpott (38:02), Katherine Wallek (40:15), Steve Barrett (40:54), Stephen Divers (44:29), John Schofield (46:44), Jill Bennett (49:34), Antonia Boxall (49:37), Izzy Dewdney (50:07), Chris Page (51:12), Katherine Hughes (52:59), Theresa Chalk (59:18), Karen Sargent (1:02:01), Malcolm Slater (1:10:37) and Jacqui Simms (1:12:56).
We had a small group take part in the Kings Head Canter - a 5k race starting in the village of Chiddingly. Jamie Goodhead crossed the line first for BHR in 19:40. He was followed by Travis Golbey (21:15), Hannah Goodhead (25:17), Emma Goodhead (26:57), Oliver Day (30:32), Kim Gow (31:08) and Marlene McHale (32:36).
The Wallek family travelled to London to take part in The Big Half. Dylan Wallek finished in 1:27:24, followed by Phil in 1:27:55 and Kath in 1:41:43.
Elsewhere, Yasmine Allfrey and Kevin Cross finished the Rye Ancient Trails 30k race in 3:25:27 and 3:30:47 respectively, with Ben Ayling finishing the 15k race in 1:44:32. Annette Maynard and John Palmer finished the Surrey Half Marathon in 1:47:37 and 1:59:42. And Jamie Goodhead and Mark Nicholls finished the Pilgrim Marathon in 4:19:56.
Last but not least, Chris Maule came first in his age category in the Battersea 10k in 35:50, and Robert Carr finished the Tallinn Marathon in 3:59:11.

A couple of big group races to report on this week, as well as a couple of big distance races. First up, an always-popular one with the club, and the chance to run around the grounds of Wakehurst - it's the Wakehurst Willow 8k. First for BHR was Jon Boxall in 29:52. Mark Nicholls and Jamie Goodhead travelled to Cornwall to take part in The Rat 2024 - a series of off road coastal path runs along a stretch of the South Cornwall Coastal Path. Jamie and Mark completed the 32 mile race, in 6:18:18 and 6:50:07 respectively.
And last but not least, Rob Carr travelled to Scotland to take on the immense challenge of "Race Across Scotland, a 215 mile race, following the Southern Upland Way, from one coast to another. He finished in 94:10:37.

Another packed couple of weeks to report on with BHRs keeping themselves busy as we enter the summer period.
WSFRL races tend to come thick and fast over the summer, with no less than three taking place in recent weeks. First, the Arunners Beach Run in Littlehampton. A famously picturesque race, with the route taking place entirely on the sandy beach. Paul Prosser was first for BHR in 36:08. He was followed by Andrew Biggs (37:25), Gayle Tyler (39:08), Fred Sykes (39:13), Oliver Dewdney (40:08), Suse Potts (43:06), Stephen Divers (44:22), Izzy Dewdney (47:19), John Schofield (47:26), Jill Bennett (49:12), Chris Page (49:15), Katherine Hughes (50:25), Laura Walton (50:33), Jane Owen (54:00), Susan Bull (56:51), Viv Smith (59:14), Hugh Stevenage (1:03:05) and David Clark (1:19:28).
Later that week was the Hove Hornets Stinger, a challenging cross-country course over 10km of the South Downs. First for BHR was Travis Golbey in 47:20. He was followed by Andrew Bishop (53:49), Steve Barrett (54:47), Oliver Dewdney (56:37), Stephen Divers (58:02), John Schofield (1:04:02), Chris Page (1:06:09), Izzy Dewdney (1:07:34) and Jill Bennett (1:08:02).
And to round off the recent spurt of WSFRL races, the Henfield Joggers 7 Stiles. First for BHR was Travis Golbey (27:26). He was followed by Oliver Dewdney (29:58), Stephen Divers (33:25), John Schofield (35:55), Chris Page (37:38), Sheryl Caldecourt (37:44), Izzy Dewdney (38:47), Jill Bennett (38:47) and Hugh Stevenage (51:00).
In non-WSFRL news, Annette Maynard completed the Bewl Water 15 Mile Race in 2:18:00. Sally Symes the Goodwood Duathlon in 1:32:18 and Ben Ayling the "Big Heat" in 3:33:31. Chris Page and Stephen Divers completed the Beat the Tide 10k in 1:03:07 and 52:57 respectively.
A small group travelled down to the seafront for the mid-week Brighton Pheonix 10k. Tom Wheatley was first for BHR in 41:36. He was followed by Gayle Tyler (43:56), Ian Gibson (49:01), Sally Symes (51:50) and Claire Giles (1:05:52).

A wide range of races to report on this week. First up the latest West Sussex Fun Run League race, this time hosted by Steyning AC - the Roundhill Romp. First for BHR was Mark Nicholls in 41:49. He was followed by Paul Prosser (43:59), Gayle Tyler (49:45), John Poustie (49:51), Andrew Bishop (50:03), Trevor Symes (51:37), Suse Potts (53:42), Sally Symes (57:01), Chris Page (1:00:44), Jill Bennett and Stephen Divers (1:01:44), John Palmer (1:02:36), Claire Giles (1:05:02) and Hugh Stevenage (1:19:13).
We also recently hosted our own West Sussex Fun Run League race, the Downlands Dash. Most of our members took up marshalling positions - but we had a small group take part in the race. First was Ben Peters who finished in 31:57. He was followed by Annette Maynard (36:43), Oliver Dewdney (37:55), Robert Carr (41:07) and Kim Gow (who took on the role of back marker, 1:11:00).
In another big turnout - this week also saw the return of the St Lawrence Fair Fun Run, always a popular one for BHR. Phil Wallek was first for BHR in 39:54 and 2nd overall. He was followed by Chris Alden (40:53 and 3rd overall), Tom Wheatley (41:29), Dylan Wallek (42:26), Neil Phillpot (44:20), Sharona Harrington (46:10), Gayle Tyler (47:20), Kath Wallek (47:24), Annette Maynard (48:37), Gary Parr (52:43), Trevor Symes (56:14), Chris Page (58:01), Sarah Parr (63:12) and Marlene McHale (1:08:58).
Elsewhere, Annette Maynard and John Palmer travelled to the Isle of Wight for the Needles Half Marathon - considered one of the toughest but most scenic half marathons in the UK. They finished in 1:53:59 and 2:36:55 respectively.
Nicky Callus took on another momentus event, the Serpent Trail 100k, long-distance trail race through breathtaking areas of the South Downs National Park. She finished in 17:16:31.
And last but not least, Chris Maule came 3rd overall in the recent Goodwood 10k, finishing in 35:36.

Another bumper week this week with a range of races to report on.
First up, another WSFRL race, this time hosted by Chichister A.C. The Trundle View 5 is a challenging and entirely off-road roughly 5 mile course around the Goodwood Country Park. Mark Nicholls was first for BHR in 32:20. We had another big group take on a popular one with the cub, the Worthing 10k. Ben Peters was first for BHR in 36:42. He was followed by Sam Mayes (37:13), Dylan Wallek (40:02), Travis Golbey (41:53), Neil Phillpot (41:56), Oliver Dewdney (43:54), Gayle Tyler (45:30), Mark Nicholls (46:53), Susan Wintle (46:56), Isabelle Kidway (46:58), Izzy Dewdney (53:04), Ella Stanbrook (56:16), Sam Chislett (56:17), Mark Craigs (57:51), Lucy Ward (1:04:56), Katie Howes (1:04:59), and David Leen (1:06:08).
Another group took on the Weald Challenge, a trail half marathon from the village of Chiddingly. Phil Wallek was first for BHR in 1:47:11. He was followed by Kath Wallek (2:06:32), Emma Buckland (2:35:56), Chris Page (2:37:31) and Dawn Fahy (3:29:09).
Elsewhere, Cath Beckett completed the Edinburgh Marathon in 4:09:59, and Robert Carr travelled to Latvia to complete the Riga Marathon in 4:57:57. Rosanna Allfrey finished the Wisborough 5k in 33:45 and Yasmine Allfrey the 10k in 49:01. Stephanie Harding completed the Leonardslee Summer 10k in 1:15:26. Going the extra distance were Jamie Goodhead who completed the South Downs Way 100 in 23:32:06, and Robert Carr who completed the Ultra Scotland 50 in 17:23:41.
And last but not least, BHR entered a team into the annual South Downs Way Relay. The team, comprising of Kath Wallek, Phil Wallek, Chris Maule, Travis Golbey, Richard Jerome and Jonathan Boxall. They finished in 12:19:46, 16th out of 47 teams and 5th in category.

It was another weekend of WSFRL running, this time in Portslade hosted by the Portslade Hedgehoppers. The Hedgehopper 5 is roughly a 5 mile course on undulating chalky paths over the South Downs. We had a team of 17, starting with Oliver Day who finished in 34:41. He was followed by Phil Wallek (36:39), Jamie Goodhead (37:15), Travis Golbey (37:39), Annette Maynard (41:34), Steve Barrett (43:52), Susan Wintle (44:33), Katherine Wallek (45:37), Stephen Divers (47:57), Richard Light (48:24), Nicky Callus (50:53), Chris Page (51:21), Jill Bennett (54:18), Katherine Hughes (54:19), Theresa Chalk (1:00:17), John Palmer (1:02:53) and Ruth Day (1:06:35).
We also had a group take part in the annual Green Belt Relay, a popular event in the BHR calendar. The Green Belt Relay is a 22-stage 220 mile running relay around the outside of London, organised by The Stragglers running club. Once again BHR entered three teams of 11 captained by returning champion Oliver Day, alongside Phil Latham and Gayle Tyler. While BHR don't tend to compete for the top spots, many runners broke BHR course records, and for the first time in BHR history we had a new member, Jonnie Neville, win one of the stages.
Elsewhere, Yasmine Allfrey completed the Seaford 10k in 48:06, and the Lindfield 10k in 1:00;14, Chris Page also completed the Lindfield 10k in 1:14:36.

An absolute bumper of a report this week with a wide range of races to report on.
First, the return of a favourite for the club, the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend. An annual event in which runners have the chance to run a marathon distance spread across three days. Starting with a 10 mile race in East Grinstead on Saturday, followed by a 10 mile race in Haywards Heath on the Sunday, and ending with a 10k around the fields of Burgess Hill on the Monday. In the East Grinstead race, Ben Peters was first for BHR in 1:08:05. And in the Burgess Hill 10k, Ben Peters was first for BHR in 37:48. He was followed by Samuel Mayes (40:23), Lewis Kemp (44:28), Oliver Dewdney (48:42), Steven Barrett (48:57), Annette Maynard (49:29), Carlos Reyes (50:46), Yasmine Allfrey (54:02), Jack Maynard (55:29), Izzy Dewdney (58:28), Ella Stanbrook (58:46), John Schofield (59:00), Emma Watson (59:02), John Palmer (1:02:57), Geraldine Tyler (1:08:41), Marlene McHale (1:10:25) and George Wotton (1:11:25).
BHR went away with some overall awards, including Annette Maynard winning overall Ladies winner, Ben Peters overall Mens 2nd place. At East Grinstead, Burgess Hill and the overall weekend - we came away with the Top Club - Female award, meaning the first club to have 3 runners finish.
Elsewhere, we had a group take part in the Angerming Bluebell Run 10k and 10 mile races. Kim Gow completed the 10k in 1:14:33. And in the 10 mile race, Phil Wallek was first for BHR in 1:07:57. He was followed by Susan Wintle (1:22:46), Kath Wallek (1:25:30), Mick Richards (and his dog Oscar, who took part in the canicross event - 1:47:27), and Hugh Stevenage (2:09:25).
We also had some runners travelling abroad for races. Hazel Fordham travelled to Dubrovnik for the Dubrovnik Half Marathon which she completed in 2:43:10. And James and Wendy White chose Toronto, completing the Half Marathon in 2:37:26.
Last but not least, Oliver Day completed the Three Forts Marathon in 4:10:48, and Travis Golbey the Half Marathon in 1:44:09. Jamie Goodhead and Mark Nicholls completed the Belfast Marathon in 3:23:58 and 2:57:57 respectively. And Chania Hemsley-Smith took on the 50k Race to the Sea Ultra Marathon in 6:45:28.

It was the return of a big one this week, the London Marathon. With a record number of runners signed up, this year was set to be one of the biggest races yet, and we had a group of 12 runners travel up to the capital to take on the challenge. First for BHR was Chris Maule who finished in 2:53:13. He was followed by Paul Prosser (3:11:45), Andrew Bishop (3:25:33), Annette Maynard (3:36:24), Cath Beckett (3:53:29), Andy Biggs (3:55:58), Ella Stanbrook (4:09:12), Phil McManus (4:09:12), John Boxall (4:09:14), Simon Thompson (4:24:00), Antonia Boxall (5:30:46) and Jay Wadey (6:09:31).
Staying more local, some of our runners travelled to Worthing for the Worthing Runfest. In the half marathon, Travis Golbey was first for BHR in 1:31:19. He was followed by Yasmine Allfrey (1:46:06), Lucy Ward (1:59:20) and Rebecca Norton (1:59:57).
In the 10k, Anthony Petiffer-Knight was first for BHR in 48:55. He was followed by Gary Parr (51:29), Chris Page (55:13), Sarah Parr (56:20) and David Leen (1:07:55).
Finally, Oliver Day and Jamie Goodhead took on the LDWA South Downs Marathon. Participants could either run or walk the route. Oliver and Jamie chose to run it and finished together in 5:18:00, coming joint second in the men's category and joint fourth overall.

A big week to report on this week, from 10ks to ultra-marathons. First up, the Brighton Marathon and 10k. One of the biggest weekends of the year for our club with many people taking on one of the two challenges. In the marathon, Chris Alden was first for BHR in 2:59:14. He was followed by Andrew Bishop (3:28:19), Mark Nicholls and Jamie Goodhead (3:32:31), Jonathan Herbert (3:44:09), Susan Wintle (3:44:31), Gary Parr (4:49:56), Claire Giles (4:57:54), Jason Quinn (4:59:33) and Sarah Parr (5:00:03).
In the 10k, Sheryl Caldecourt was first for BHR in 56:05. She was followed by Emma Watson (1:01:00), Antonia Boxall (1:01:01), Kim Gow (1:01:35), Hazel Fordham (1:05:33), Karen Hancock (1:06:09) and Hugh Stevenage (1:10:02).
Ella Stanbrook and Izzy Dewdney completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon in 1:59:22 and 2:00:03 respectively. While Ben Peters and Chris Page completed the Seaford Half Marathon in 1:28:10 (coming in 6th place) and 2:17:43. Hugh Stevenage completed the Grand National Findon 10k in 1:20:23.
Robert Carr took on the immense challenge of the Manchester to Liverpool Ultra. Starting at Media City in Salford, the 50 mile route takes runners across Trans-Pennine Trail, the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey from Manchester to Liverpool. He finished in 11:12:00.
Last but not least, Andy Biggs achieved a 14 minute marathon PB, and a 16-year goal of getting under 3h30 at the Manchester Marathon, with a finish time of 3:16:33.

A bumper report this week with our runners taking part in a range of races in the local area.
First up, we had a small group take part in the Mel's Milers 10k. Taking place annually on the last Sunday of March or first Sunday in April, it's a flat course, taking runners over pathways, track and trail through the Sussex countryside. Kirsty Phillpot was first for BHR in 40:16, and also picked up second place woman overall. She was followed by Neil Phillpot (45:04), Stephen Divers (1:03:38), Malcolm Slater (1:17:38) and Theresa Chalk (1:18:18).
We also had a group travel to Hastings for the Hastings Half Marathon. Ben Peters was first for BHR in 1:22:07. He was followed by Andrew Bishop (1:39:28), Kevin Cross (1:52:42), Yasmine Allfrey (1:52:57), Tshepho Mati (1:59:48), Robert Carr (2:19:18), Tlou Mati (2:31:22) and Hugh Stevenage (2:55:23). Elsewhere, Angie Bower travelled to Reading for the Reading 1020 Trail Race, she finished in 1:51:47.
It was also the weekend of the Sussex Road Relays at Preston Park. BHR picked up 14th place in the MV50 category, with Oliver Day finishing his 2 mile leg in 12:19, Jamie Goodhead in 13:05 and John Palmer in 16:45.
Finally, it was the return of a popular race for BHR, and the next of the WSFRL races, the Lewes AC Easter Monday 10k. We had a bumper turnout - with 37 BHRs taking part. Ben Peters was first for BHR in 40:10. Another busy week of races to report on this week. First up, the return of local classic, the Moyleman Marathon - a tough, off-road marathon around the hills surrounding Lewes. This year BHR had 5 brave souls taking on the challenge. First over the line for BHR was Mark Nicholls, who completed the course in 3:48:17. He was followed by Phil Wallek (3:50:02), Jamie Goodhead (4:22:18), Oliver Day (4:33:01) and Chania Hemsley-Smith (5:38:41).
We had another group of 5 travel to Bath for the Bath Half Marathon. First for BHR was Oliver Dewdney in 1:49:46. He was followed by Stephen Divers (2:19:14), Jill Bennett (2:19:17), Karen Harvey (2:51:03) and Helen Pratt (2:54:16).
Elsewhere, Annette Maynard and John Palmer travelled to Kingston for the Kingston Spring Raceday, a series of races of varying distances. John finished the 16 mile race in 2:42:05, and Annette the 20 mile race in 2:46:11.
Travelling even further afield, Claire Giles finished the Barcelona Marathon in 4:48:15. And last but not least, Chris Page completed the Balcombe Bull Run in 45:03.

It's been a wet and windy couple of weeks for our runners, but that hasn't stopped them taking part in a range of races. Firsty, staying local with a popular annual event - the Steyning Stinger. The Steyning Stinger is a hilly cross-country run through the South Downs between Steyning, Storrington and Shoreham-by-Sea, with a range of distances to chose from. In the half marathon, Neil and Kirsty Phillpot finished in 2:07:18 and 2:07:20 respectively. In the 30k, Phil Wallek finished in 2:34:09 and Oliver Day in 2:57:14. And finally in the marathon, Mark Nicholls finished in 4:05:55, and Flic Archer in 4:43:55.
Elsewhere, Isabelle Henton secured a PB at the Cambridge Half Marathon, finishing in 2:05:47. Finally, Carlos Reyes finished first for BHR in the Eastbourne Half, crossing the finish line in 1:49:52. He was followed by Rainer Hirt (2:23:27) and Hugh Stevenage (3:10:26).

It was the return of one of the most popular events for BHR this week, the Brighton Half Marathon. It was another windy one, but that didn't stop a team of 33 Burgess Hill Runners cross the start line. First for BHR was Ben Peters, who sped round the course in 1:21:59. Lots of local races to report on this week starting with the Chichester 10k, a fast and flat 10k at the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit. Ben Peters was first for BHR in 36:07. He was followed by Kirsty Phillpot (40:22), Jamie Goodhead (41:34), Simon Thompson (48:31), Chris Page (54:27) and Hugh Stevenage (1:08:55).
It was also the last Sussex Cross Country League event of the season, this time at a new venue, Glyndebourne. Andy Sayers was first for BHR in 51:21. He was followed by Steve Barrett (53:48), Daniel Belton (55:06), Stuart Condie (55:43) and Rainer Hirt (66:11).
Elsewhere, Annette Maynard and John Palmer travelled to Chichester Harbour for the Chidham Trail Half Marathon, a great multi-terrain event taking in harbour views and a bit of beach! Annette finished in 1:49:43 and came first in her age category, and John finished in 2:21:08.
And last but not least, there was another WSFRL League event, the popular Crawley Run Crew Run Your Heart Out event at Tilgate Park. BHR turned out a big group, with Kirsty Phillpot being the first to cross the line for the club in 35:07. The race calendar is filling up again with a range of races to report on this week. First up the return of a popular set of races for the club, the Winter Tanners 20 and 30. Organised by the Surrey LDWA, the 20 and 30 mile routes cover footpaths across the Surrey countryside. In the 20 mile race, Dan Belton finished in 3:57. He was followed by Jayne Leaney and Karen Harvey (5:14), Chania Hemsley-Smith and Jane Owen (5:16), Karen Willett (5:39), Ruth and Oliver Day (6:42), Nicola Dawson (6:53), Nicola Saunders and Sarah Thompson (7:04), and Tracey Baines (7:06). In the 30 mile race, Simon Thompson finished in 7:22 and Nicky Callus in 7:30.
Elsewhere, Jill Bennett and Stephen Divers completed the Farnborough Half Marathon in 2:10:12. Yasmine Allfrey and Hugh Stevenage completed the Newhaven 10k in 51:15 and 1:14:28 respectively.
And last but not least, we had another event in the Sussex Masters Cross Country Championships, this time hosted at Coombe Farm, Lancing. In the womens race, Kirsty Phillpot finished in 35:58, and Gayle Tyler in 41:38. For the men, Stuart Condie finished in 44:11 and John Palmer in 51:25.

Just two races to report on this week. First, it was the return of the Country to Capital Ultra. A 43 mile point to point race that takes runners through the Buckinghamshire countryside and finishing along the Grand Union Canal tow path for the final stretch into Central London. Mark Nicholls and Jamie Goodhead took on this mighty challenge, finishing in 7:01:23 and 7:03:25 respectively.
Mark Santer also travelled to London, to take on the Runthrough Battersea Park 10k. Mark had a fantastic morning, achieving his goal of a sub-90 minute half marathon, with a finish of 1:28:55.

Burgess Hill Runners rounded off 2023 and started 2024 with a bang. A group of BHRs ended the year with the annual Darklink 10k, an evening headtorch-needing 10k up the Downslink from Shoreham to Bramber and back. First up for BHR was Chris Page in 57:37. He was followed by Catherine Kempton (59:33), Stephen Divers (1:02:24), Jill Bennett (1:02:26) and Claire Giles (1:05:08).
And to start the New Year, we enjoyed the first WSFRL race of 2024 - the Worthing Gazelles Hangover 5. The 5 mile course takes in hills, chalky tracks and paths up to the Cissbury Ring and back. Oliver Day was first for BHR in 39:04.
